Details

This medication works by unclogging pores and clearing of the pimples under the surface of skin. The pores of the skin come in normal functioning. This prevents to help existing pimples and the formation of new pimples as well. Generally, this gel combines to particular retinoic acid nuclear receptors and usually can standardize the segregation of follicular epithelial cells and result in reduction of microcomedone development.

How to use:

This gel is to be applied once in the evening daily. Wash the hands properly before application of this gel. Skin should be cleaned with mild cleanser and wiped with towel. Then medication is to be applied at the affected skin areas. It can take more than two weeks for improves the sign of pimples.

Dosage: 

Apply thin film coat of the gel once in a day to the affected areas of the washed and cleaned skin.

Medicinal Uses:

  • This gel is used to treat acne vulgaris of the face, back or chest.
  • This gel is helpful to treat whiteheads and blackheads.
  • It helps in the treatment of acne.
  • This gel is having use in the treatment of keratosis pilaris and additional skin infections.

Drug interaction:

This gel may interact with the following type of drugs:

  • Clindamycin gel
  • Albuterol gel
  • Trazodine gel
  • Doxycycline gel

Contraindication:

  • If the person is allergic to Adapalene and any other active medication of this gel.
  • This gel should not be used on sunburned, chapped, dry, scalded and broken skin.
  • Don’t dispense to this gel to the pediatric patients.
  • In case of wounds or eczema.
  • Alcohol containing products, astringents, other cosmetics should be avoided.

Precautions:

  • Products containing soaps, shampoos, hair coloring, skin cleansers and hair removers that can cause irritation should not be used while using this medication.
  • Avoid exposure of sunlight because it can cause sunburn.
  • The medication should not be applied around the eyes, mouth, nose, mucous membranes etc. It may cause swelling, conjunctivitis in the eye if used around the eyes
  • Alcohol containing products, astringents, other cosmetics should be avoided.
  • Alpha hydroxy products or glycolic acids should be avoided.
  • Strong treatment like salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide should be avoided.
  • Any make up and moisturizers application should be avoided.
  • Avoid waxing on the treated skin.

Side effects:

Some of the common side effects of the medication are:

  • During initial use of this gel, skin can show symptoms like redness, dryness and scaly. Some burning or stinging can be felt. Tingling, itching and irritation of skin can occur.
  • During the first month of usage worsening of acne can occur.
  • It may cause swelling, conjunctivitis in the eye if used around the eyes
  • If hyper-pigmentation from acne spots exists, this medication can make them darker.

Missed Dose:

If a person forgets to take the dose, use it as soon as you remember. If the time is near to the next dose then skip the missed dose and use another dose.  

Overdose:

If the medicine is used too much, some symptoms may occur like skin redness, scaling or irritations, immediately consult your dermatologist.

Storage condition:

  • The medication should be stored at room temperature.
  • It should be kept away from moisture and heat.
  • Don’t freeze the gel.
