Betamethasone is a corticosteroid. It works by modifying the body's immune response to various conditions and decreasing inflammation. How to apply Betamethasone cream?

  1.  Kindly soak the area in water or wash it well. When the skin is moist rub the medication into the affected area.
  2.  Next cover the area with plastic wrap such as Handy-Wrap. The plastic may be held in place with a gauze or elastic bandage or adhesive tape on the normal skin beside the treated area.
  3. Leave the plastic wrapping in place as long as instructed by your doctor. Usually plastic wraps are left in place not more than 12 hours each day.
  4. Cleanse the skin and reapply the medication each time a new plastic wrapping is applied.

Medical interaction

There are medications which may interact with betamethasone.

  • Barbiturates like Phenobarbital, Hydrations like Phenytoin, decrease betamethasone effectiveness.
  • When Betamethasone is taken along with Aspirin,  mifepristone or ritodrine  there is an increased risk of their side effects which may be increased by betamethasone

Possible side effects of betamethasone
