Details

In Aleve, Naproxen  is the chief constituent, it  belong to NSAIDS category (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs).It acts by blocking the action COX-1 and COX- 2enzyme.COX- 1 enzyme responsible for synthesizes prostaglandins necessary for normal gastrointestinal and renal function. The COX-2, produces prostaglandins involved in inflammation.

Contraindication

The use Aleve is not safe in enlisting condition
  • In case of having any allergy to Naproxen or any of its constituent

  • In case of stomach bleeding or ulcer
  • In case of liver or kidney disease

Drug interaction

The use of certain drugs should be avoided while taking this drug.

  • Avoid intake of ACE-inhibitors such as Enalapril,the combination may inhibit the antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors.
  • Avoid intake Antacids such as magnesium oxide, because it may delay the action of naproxen.
  • Avoid intake of anti-hyperlipidemia drug such as Cholestyramine because, concomitant administration of Cholestyramine can interruption the absorption of naproxen.
  • Avoid intake of methotrexate, because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Aleve
  • Avoid intake Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) because concomitants use increased the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Storage condition

  • Store Aleve at room temperature, between 20 and 25 degrees C.
  • Store away from direct heat, moisture, and light.
  • Keep this drug out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Dosage

Take this drug with a glass of water with or without food.

  • For treatment of menstrual cramps, and other kinds of pain: The recommended dose for Adult is 500 milligrams (mg) for the first dose, then 250 mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed.
  • For treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis: The maximum recommended, as needed, up to a total of 1500 mg per day. For Children 2 years of age and older. The dose is usually 5 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight 2 times in a day.

What to do in case of missed dose?

There is no chance of a missed dose, as Aleve is used when desired. There is no need to make a programmed schedule.

What to do incase overdose?

The overdose of this drug cause serious side effects such as Bleeding under the skin, Confusion, muscle tremors, restlessness, Sleepiness. Treatment is based of symptomatic and supportive care.

 

Side effects

Some undesirable effects of this drug along with its therapeutic effects include he most common side effects from naproxen are:Some serious side effects include fluid retaining,blood clots,heart attacks, increased in blood pressure, and heart failure. Some common side effects include skin rash,bleeding, difficulty in  swallowing, hearing disorder, mood disorder, puffiness of the  feet/hands, unexpected weight gain, alteration in the amount of urine, , vision  change.

Precaution

  • Avoid driving or any machinery work as it may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Avoid the intake of too much alcohol and smoking. Regular use of alcohol and tobacco may increase the risk for stomach bleeding.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure, as this drug makes skin sensitive to the sun. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
